Democratic Progressive Party Taipei mayoral candidate Puma Shen said on Oct. 22 that stock trading could, in the future, be considered separately from the work-and-school suspension system, while Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission said the issue is still in the stage of collecting views and studying feasibility. ABMedia’s report examines whether tokenized stocks and stock perpetual futures offer a practical alternative when traditional exchanges are shut. Platforms including Ondo Finance, Robinhood, Kraken, Bitget and Binance have launched products that give investors economic exposure to U.S. stocks through blockchain-based tokens, with some supporting 24/7 transfers or trading outside regular market hours. At the same time, crypto exchanges and derivatives venues such as Binance, Bitget, OKX, Coinbase Global Exchange and the Hyperliquid ecosystem already offer stock-linked perpetual contracts that continue trading even when the underlying cash market is closed. The report also makes a key distinction: these products do not amount to a normal stock market opening. Token holders often do not receive direct shareholder rights, and perpetual futures are derivatives rather than spot equities. Even if similar products were developed for Taiwanese stocks in compliance with local rules, they would not replace ownership transfer, settlement, or the exercise of shareholder rights in the Taiwan stock market.110

On the same day, the Hsinmin Association released its second poll for the race, putting Shen at 50.3% and Chiang at 33.3%, a 17-point lead. In the first wave released in September, Chiang led 41.7% to 40.5%, so the ranking reversed in the latest survey. The poll was designed and analyzed by Tai Li-an on commission from the Hsinmin Association, with Beacon Market Research conducting phone interviews from Oct. 14 to Oct. 16. The survey completed 1,075 interviews, including 753 landline respondents and 322 mobile respondents, with a margin of error of ±3.0 percentage points.
